Gifted and Talented

What does it mean to be Gifted and Talented?

The Colorado Department of Education's definition:

CMS has a half time Gifted and Talented coordinator that works with students that are formally identified as being Gifted and Talented as well as some students that are not identified but are high performing students.  The coordinator is responsible for implementing the "Challenge Program", which is 45-60 minute per week pull-out enrichment.  Themes for instruction vary per grade level and from year to year and all students have the opportunity to go on a field trip.

It is a very exiting time to be in gifted and talented education in DPS.  Beginning in Fall of 2009, all identified students will have a personal Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) that will address their specific academic and social/emotional needs.  ALP's will be written in collaboration with the classroom teacher, the GT representative, and the parents and will be monitored throughout the school year to ensure that the goals are met.  Each year new goals are developed as the student's needs are constantly changing as their
