Current School Innovations

Charles M. Schenck (CMS) Community School is a collaborative community of creative, positive, compassionate learners who embrace challenges and are exemplary members of our global society.  We respect each individual.  We are committed to nurturing and encouraging Curiosity, Uniqueness, Responsibility, Perseverance and Self-reflection.  We accomplish this by maintaining high expectations for others and ourselves.  We work as a team of students, staff, families and community members to create an environment that motivates us all to achieve our personal best.
Current school reforms and innovations to directly improve student achievement:
➢    Denver Public Schools Beacon School and School Innovation Grant recipient beginning spring 2008
➢    Laboratory school for The University of Colorado, School of Education- Bueno Center
➢    Dual Language Program (ECE to 3rd grade for the 2009/2010 school year), with an additional grade level added each year
➢    Literacy Squared research project school
➢    Teacher-based professional development for 21st Century standards-based learning and assessment
➢    Masters degree cohort of 17 teachers on site receiving classes focused on Linguistically Diverse Populations
➢    Recipient of Colorado Department of Education grant following extensive site review of school improvement plan
➢    Comprehensive after-school programs providing both enrichment and academic remediation opportunities for students
➢    Highly effective parent involvement program, including:  educational opportunities, community resources, classroom volunteering, child advocacy, on site parent- liaison
➢    DPS/Denver Community Partner school
